How to Add a Stamp in Word (Every Page or Just One)
Updated 28 September 2026
Word handles stamp images well once you know two settings: text wrapping and the header. Here's the full process for Word on Windows and Mac.
1. Insert the stamp
- Create your stamp and download the PNG.
- In Word, click where the stamp should go, then choose Insert → Pictures → This Device (on Mac: Insert → Pictures → Picture from File).
- Select the PNG.
2. Let it float over the text
By default Word treats pictures like a letter in a line of text, which pushes everything around. Click the stamp, open Picture Format → Wrap Text and choose In Front of Text. Now you can drag it anywhere — over a signature line, into a corner, or overlapping text like a real stamp.
3. Resize and tilt
Drag a corner handle to resize (corners keep the proportions). Use the round arrow above the picture to rotate it a few degrees for a more natural, hand-stamped look.
4. Put the stamp on every page
For CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or COPY marks that should appear on all pages:
- Double-click the top or bottom margin to open the header or footer.
- Insert the picture there and set Wrap Text → In Front of Text (or Behind Text for a watermark effect).
- Drag it anywhere on the page — even though it lives in the header, it can sit in the middle of the page.
- Close the header. The stamp now repeats on every page.
5. Save as PDF
Use File → Save As (or Export) and choose PDF. The stamp is fixed in place in the PDF and prints exactly as shown.
Troubleshooting
- White box around the stamp: you inserted a JPG or a screenshot. Use the downloaded PNG.
- Stamp jumps when you type: check that wrapping is set to In Front of Text, and use Position → Fix position on page.
- Stamp looks too strong: lower the opacity in the stamp maker before downloading, or use Word's Picture Transparency option.
Frequently asked questions
Can I save the stamp in Word for later?
Yes. Select the stamp and use Insert → Quick Parts → Save Selection to Quick Part Gallery. It then appears in the Quick Parts menu in every document.
Does this work in Word online?
Mostly. Word for the web supports inserting pictures and In Front of Text wrapping; header placement anywhere on the page works best in the desktop app.
