What "void" means on a document
VOID marks a document as cancelled and no longer valid. It is used on cancelled invoices (which are usually replaced by a credit note or a corrected invoice), on cheques you are sending only so someone can read your bank details, and on forms filled in by mistake that must be kept for the record rather than thrown away.
Keep voided documents
In most bookkeeping systems you shouldn't delete a cancelled invoice. Mark it VOID, keep it in sequence, and issue the correction as a new document. That keeps your numbering complete, which accountants and tax auditors expect.
Design tips
- Make it large and place it across the main content, so nobody can overlook it.
- Black or red both work; black survives photocopying best.
Frequently asked questions
Is a VOID stamp enough to cancel an invoice?
It marks the document, but the correct accounting step is usually a credit note or cancellation invoice. Ask your accountant which your country requires.
Can I write CANCELLED instead?
Yes. Change the text in the stamp maker to CANCELLED or ANNULLED before you download.
